Grinder iconExample Application #1 — HIP BROACHES

Some hip broach designs have spiral or annular cutting teeth requiring a specific profile on the grinding wheel. Chip breakers are then added with a different profile wheel, thus requiring the use of two different grinding wheels. The Huffman wheel changer enables the user to design the process with single wheels rather than wheel packs. Doing so eliminates the engineering required to avoid interference conditions associated with wheel packs with multiple grinding wheels.

Example Application #2 — FEMORAL KNEE IMPLANTS

Grinding wheels can access much of the articulating surface of a femoral implant. Some geometry, particularly between condyles, is difficult if not impossible to reach with 6" - 8" diameter grinding wheels. The wheel/tool changer enables automatic changeover from grinding wheels to smaller diameter milling cutters which can access difficult-to-reach areas of the workpiece. Similarly, the wheel changer enables automatic changeover from an aggressive, course-grit roughing wheel to a finer-grit finishing wheel, thereby reducing the number of down-stream belting and polishing operations.
