MAVIS — Machine Application Visual Interface Software

Data File EditingHuffman Corporation's Machine Application Visual Interface Software (MAVIS) was developed by our software engineers to give our customers a simplified, convenient and flexible tool to be used by any machine operator, either novice or experienced. Using the familiar Windows®-based computer, MAVIS is icon and mouse driven. No more nested menus and screens, or knowledge of operating system commands or computer specific concepts.

Simplified Look & Ease of Use

MAVIS uses window-style screens that lead the operator through sequential choices, such as identification of the part to be produced, retrieving data files, probing parts, making a finished part program and downloading part programs. These error-free programs increase throughput and create high-quality parts, saving you time and money. Productivity is also increased using MAVIS with the ability to create and modify handwritten part programs.

Other Benefits of Using MAVIS

  • Automatic data file generation conforms to NAS986 standards.
  • Error notification and logging is automatic.
  • Better compatibility through a DNC interface for older machines.

Navigation Buttons

New Part
Lists part families based on installed Huffman software packages. Selecting a part family reconfigures the software to produce CNC programs for that type of part, controls the type of graphics available and preselects the available part geometry parameters.

Data File
Presents a list of the current data files for the part family selected. A data file selected from the list contains the parameters that define the part geometry. The parameter values are displayed for review and modification to conform to specific parts. If desired, a graphical representation of the parameters may be simultaneously displayed as well.

Probe
Initiates interactive probing for packages that require it. The machine probes predefined aspects of the part geometry and automatically returns the probed values to the selected data file. This process helps eliminate errors for proper part setup.

Program
Activates the appropriate post processor for the selected part family. The post processor is fed the previously selected data file(s) and wheel geometry. A CNC program is produced and ready for download or activation.

Activate Program
Transfers the newly created CNC program, via DNC link, into the machine control. Note: Huffman Open Architecture Control (OAC) does not require a DNC link.

Auto Run
Allows the user to initiate combinations of the Probe, Program and Activate functions with the touch of a single button.

Operator Assist
Permits the selection, download and/or activation of pre-written CNC utility programs. Both Huffman and/or the customer can provide these utility programs. Typical programs can be for machine calibration, probe calibration, wheel truing, machine warm up and axis shutdown positioning.

Tooling
Permits access to seldom-modified machine parameters shared by all parts in a part family or group of families. These are typically concerned with fixturing, wheel truing or probing.

File Manager
Activates the GUI's file manager window. From this window, files can be moved, copied, renamed, viewed and deleted. CNC program files can be edited and part families can be further divided in subclasses according to end user requirements.

Wheels
Provides the ability to activate, generate, view, modify and manage multiple grinding wheel configurations. These configurations include the wheel geometry for single and multi-wheel setups as well as wheel wear offset values. Note: Wheel wear offset management is available for Huffman OAC and FANUC controls only.
